WHAT IS DERMAPLANING ?
Dermaplaning also known as epidermal leveling, is a mechanical exfoliation in which the skin’s surface is gently shaved to remove the top layer of dead skin cells with the added benefit of fine vellus hair removal. This procedure is a controlled scraping of the skin using a surgical blade. Dermaplaning provides an immediate rejuvenation of the skin and is highly effective in minimizing the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles & acne scars. It leaves the skin smooth, supple and vibrant.
Dermaplaning can be incorporated into a facial and be combined with other treatments. This exfoliation technique helps to increase penetration of active ingredients that are used during your facial procedure. You will also find that the products used at home are more effect, as they no longer have a barrier to get through. When the dead skin is removed by this method, a perfect canvas is created and make-up will glide on smoothly creating an air-brushed look, making it a great procedure to have when prepping for a special occasion.
Dermaplaning is a top choice for clients who have excess vellus hair on the face. This excess hair often causes a buildup of dirt and oils in the follicles so by removing the hair the skin is healthier looking. Vellus hair is the thin, fine, soft hair that covers the entire body and contrary to many old wives tales, vellus hair CAN NOT grow back thicker or darker. The type of hair that we grow on our heads and other areas of the body (face on men, underarms, legs & pubic areas) is called terminal hair and is effected by hormones. It is physiologically impossible for a vellus hair follicle to turn into a terminal hair follicle.
Demaplaning is a relatively quick procedure with no adverse effects. It is the perfect treatment for those contraindicated for other exfoliation treatment. During pregnancy and while nursing, facial treatment are not allowed to use peeling agents, so this makes Dermaplaning a perfect exfoliation technique to keep your skin looking great during this time period.
Dermplaning is an amazing treatment for rough, dry skin, superficial hyperpigmentation, mild acne scarring and fine lines and wrinkles. The results are a more refined, smooth, glowing appearance. There is no “downtime” after this treatment and it can be done as often as every two weeks, for those with a lot of vellus hair, most clients choose a once a month treatment to keep the skin looking its best.
